We’re delighted to share that Shade Landscapes was recently featured on BBC Gardeners’ World — the UK’s most beloved gardening programme.
Our co-founder Joe and Linda’s (his partner) tropical style garden in Northampton appeared in Episode 5, which aired on Friday 11th April 2025, offering viewers a glimpse into a lush, immersive space inspired by their travels to tropical landscapes.

The segment highlighted a key part of what defines our work: creating gardens that feel natural, atmospheric, and in tune with their surroundings. This particular garden features a naturalistic pond and water falls— something we specialise in at Shade Landscapes — but also something more: a layered, jungle-like planting style that brings the garden to life in all seasons.
Towering paulownias, Indian bean trees, tree ferns, bamboos and tetrapanax form a dramatic canopy, giving structure and height to the space while offering dappled shade below. Beneath that, bold foliage from hostas, gingers, ferns, eucomis and colocasias add depth and movement, echoing the look and feel of tropical forest undergrowth. The effect is immersive and richly textural — a true escape from the everyday.

The centre piece a naturalistic pond, with jungle streams & waterfalls, is designed to look as though it’s always been there. With soft, flowing edges, stone detailing, and marginal planting, it supports local wildlife while enhancing the garden’s tranquil, secluded atmosphere.
At Shade Landscapes, this is exactly what we aim to create for our clients: gardens that are both beautiful and ecologically rich, with wildlife-friendly ponds that blend effortlessly into their settings. Whether you have a small urban courtyard or a larger rural plot, we believe it’s possible to bring a sense of the wild into every garden.
