How our pondless
waterfalls work

The water feature recirculates the water without the need for a pond, and therefore without the need for maintenance of a body of water. During the summer months you may need to top up the basin with water, but that’s it!

Pondless waterfalls work by pumping water contained in a large, in-ground reservoir up and through the Waterfall Spillway, allowing the water to flow back down into the reservoir. This simple recirculation system requires very little maintenance, is easy to install, and ideal for families with young children or pets that love to play in water.

Rocks and gravel hide the not so attractive pond liner and frame your waterfall so that it makes an eye-catching statement in your garden.

Waterfall Spillway

In our pondless waterfalls, we use a waterfall spillway to evenly disperse the water pumped from the reservoir to the top of the waterfall. Without it, the water would emerge in an unnatural, spurting manner. The spillway is cleverly concealed with rocks, gravel, and plants to achieve a seamless, natural appearance. Built for durability, it is strong enough to support the weight of very large rocks.

Rocks & Gravel

Rocks and gravel are used to conceal the liner and other hardware of the feature, creating a seamless, natural appearance. When arranged artistically, they give the impression that the feature has always been part of the landscape. We use a variety of rocks and gravel, prioritizing those with a weathered and natural look. Using fewer individual rocks helps enhance the organic, natural feel of the feature.

Pondless Waterfall Vault

The Aquascape Pondless Waterfall Vault provides reliable protection and housing for pumps in pondless waterfalls, rainwater harvesting systems and other water feature applications. Its durable and simple design provides easy access for waterfall maintenance whilst also ensuring efficient water circulation.

Pond Pump

The pump powers the pondless waterfall and ensures proper water circulation helping to prevent stagnation. Pond pumps are available in various sizes depending on the desired flow rate and size of the feature.

Aquablox

These water storage units are disguised with rocks, gravel and planting to make the water feature reservoir disappear. AquaBlox are made from recycled materials and designed to maximize water storage capacity efficiently, allowing for greater water retention and reducing the need to top-up the feature too frequently.

Thanks to their innovative construction and design, AquaBlox are highly resistant to deformation, particularly when properly installed with loose, free-draining material.

Pondliner & Underlayment

Fish and plants play a vital role in maintaining the health of an ecosystem pond. Plants offer shelter and protection for invertebrates and other aquatic life while shading the pond from direct sunlight. They also absorb excess nutrients from the water, helping to control unsightly algae growth and promote a balanced environment. Fish also contribute by eating algae and their waste, in turn, provides nutrients that help nourish the plants.

Frequently asked questions

It is a standalone water feature designed to replicate the sights and sounds of a natural waterfall without requiring a pond. Water is collected in a hidden underground reservoir and pumped back to the top, creating a continuous flow over rocks or other decorative elements. As the water cascades down and disappears into the reservoir, the cycle repeats, offering the beauty and serenity of a waterfall with minimal maintenance.

As it has no exposed standing body of water, a pondless waterfall is a safe option for small children and water-loving pets, whilst still being great for wildlife.

Not really! Pondless waterfalls are actually one of the lowest-maintenance water features you can have.
We install each one with an Autodoser, which automatically adds beneficial bacteria to keep the water clean and healthy.

On particularly hot days, you might need to top it up with a bit of water due to evaporation. And every now and then, clearing away any fallen leaves will help it stay looking and working its best.
